01 — Master & Order-Specific Route Sheets

One standard route,
or a route per order

Repeat manufacturers hold a master process sheet against the item — the same route runs every time you make it. Job shops rarely have that luxury: each customer order arrives with its own quirks. So a route can also be built against a specific order acknowledgement, carrying an extra operation, a different work center or a special check that the standard route does not. Print either as a travelling document that walks the floor with the job.

02 — Work Centers & Standard Times

Where the work happens,
and how long it should take

Every machine and station is a work center in the master — a CNC lathe, a VMC, a welding bay, an assembly station. Each operation on the route points at one, and carries a standard time. That single fact does a lot of work: it tells the planner how long the job should take, it lets you compare actual against standard, and because reject is booked at the operation, it ties every defect back to the work center where it happened.

03 — In-Process Inspection Branch

Catch it at the operation,
not at final inspection

An operation does not always pass straight to the next one. When it completes, the route can branch to an in-process inspection step — the operator checks against the process specification and records the result. That inspection feeds Fast Inventory & Quality: dimensional and quality parameters captured, with accept, reject or accept-under-deviation dispositions. Finding a defect at the drilling operation is a lot cheaper than finding it after the part is finished.

the losses come from

What is a route sheet (process sheet) in manufacturing?

A route sheet — also called a process sheet — is the ordered sequence of operations a part passes through to be made, each operation tied to a work center and a standard time. You can print the route sheet as a shop-floor travelling document for the job.

Master process sheet vs order-specific process sheet — what's the difference?

A master process sheet is the standard route held against an item, reused every time you make it. An order-specific process sheet is a route built against a particular order acknowledgement (OA) or work order, so a make-to-order job can carry a route that differs from the standard. Fast Production supports both — job shops and fabricators lean on order-specific sheets, repeat manufacturers lean on the master.
