Work orders that
reach the floor as
a job card

Turn a released BOM and route sheet into executed production. Raise a work order by hand or generate it straight from the sales plan, print job cards for the shop, follow each order from draft to closed, and see actual consumption against the bill — all on one manufacturing document engine.

How it works

From released BOM to closed
work order in five steps

A work order is the instruction to make a quantity of an item by a date. It carries the released BOM and bill of resources and its route sheet from the moment it is raised, so nothing on the floor runs without a bill and a plan.

Raise the Order
Create a WO by hand, or auto-generate WO/SWO from the sales plan — born at status 01 Draft
Add Specs & Release
Capture WO specifications per category, then release the order to status 4 for the floor
Print Job Cards
Job cards and shop packets go to the line with the item, route and quantities to run
Follow & Consume
Live job-card status and history track progress; consumption is recorded against the BOM
Complete & Close
Order records what was made, moves to 10 Completed then 11 Closed — or is cancelled explicitly
01 — WO or SWO, By Hand or From the Plan

One order type for stock,
one tied to the customer

An internal work order (WO) replenishes stock; a sales work order (SWO) is bound to a specific customer order acknowledgement, so make-to-order jobs never lose the delivery they were raised for. Create either on the work order entry screen, or generate them straight from the sales plan so demand becomes releasable orders in one step — every order carries its item, quantity and required date through from the plan.

02 — WO Specifications

The order carries
its own specifications

Two orders for the same part can still differ — heat treatment, plating, tolerance band, customer-specific marking. WO specifications capture per-category attributes right on the order, so the shop runs to the exact requirement for that job rather than a generic drawing. Specifications print with the job card and travel with the order through its whole life.

03 — Job Cards & Shop Packets

The floor works
from a printed packet

A released work order prints as one or more job cards — the shop packet an operator actually holds. Each card names the item, quantity, work order and the operations to run, with sheets allocated to the right card. As the job runs, live job-card status shows where every card stands and the job-card history records what was done, so a supervisor sees the whole shop from one screen instead of walking the floor.

04 — Consumption, Completion & Close

What was actually consumed
versus the bill

The order knows what it should have used — the released BOM is its expected consumption. As material is issued and booked against the order, actual consumption is recorded and compared with the bill, so over- and under-use surface per order instead of at month-end. On completion the work order captures what was made, then closes; orders that should not proceed are cancelled explicitly at status 5 or 9, with the cancellation echoing through the store documents.

Everything work orders cover

Work Order Entry

Create internal work orders (WO) or customer-linked sales work orders (SWO) by hand, each born at draft with its item, quantity and required date.

Generate From Plan

Turn the sales or production plan into releasable work orders in one step, so planned demand becomes shop-floor orders without re-keying.

WO Specifications

Capture per-category attributes — grade, finish, tolerance, marking — on the order so the shop runs to the exact requirement for that job.

Job Cards & Sheets

Print job cards and shop packets for the floor and allocate sheets to the right card, so every operator has a physical worklist.

Follow-up & History

Live job-card status, work order follow-up and full order history show open vs closed orders, ageing and each order's position on the floor.

Consumption & Completion

Compare material actually consumed against the BOM, record the made quantity on completion, and close or cancel the order explicitly.

"A shop order used to be a printout on a clipboard nobody could find. Now it's a work order with a job card and a live status — if it isn't complete, it's on the follow-up list, with the consumption sitting next to the bill."

Work order FAQs

What is the difference between a WO and an SWO?

A WO is an internal work order — an instruction to manufacture a quantity of an item by a date, usually to replenish stock. An SWO is a sales work order tied to a specific customer order acknowledgement (OA), so make-to-order jobs stay linked to the customer and delivery they were raised for. Both are documents on the same engine with doc codes WO and SWO, and both carry the released BOM and follow the same draft-to-closed lifecycle.

Can work orders be generated automatically from the sales plan?

Yes. You can create a work order manually on the work order entry screen, or auto-generate work orders from the sales or production plan so planned demand becomes releasable orders in one step. Auto-generated orders are born in draft, ready for review before release, and carry the item, quantity and required date through from Fast Planning / MRP.

What is on a job card and who uses it?

A job card is the printed shop packet for a work order — the item, quantity, work order number, route of operations and the specifications the floor needs to run the job. Sheet allocation puts the right work on the right card, and live job-card status shows where every card stands in real time for operators and supervisors.

How does the system compare material consumed against the BOM?

Every work order carries the released bill of materials as its expected consumption. As material is issued and booked against the order, actual consumption is recorded and compared with the BOM, so over- and under-use are visible per order rather than discovered at month-end. On completion the work order records what was actually made and used.

What happens to a work order through its lifecycle?

A work order starts at status 01 Draft, moves to 4 Released once approved, runs through the floor, and closes at 10 Completed then 11 Closed. Orders that should not proceed are cancelled at status 5 or 9, and the follow-up view keeps every open order, its ageing and its next step in one place. See how fabrication and job shops run this end to end.
